About Us

Hello,
This website has been created by four student physical therapists from the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse DPT program. (Left to right: Matthew Ellison, SPT., Logan Goral, SPT., Brian Zahn, SPT., Tom Chaffee, SPT.) We have developed this website in an effort to provide open access to helpful information for people suffering from sciatic nerve pain. As students of physical therapy, we have spent extensive hours learning how the human body moves so that we can pass our knowledge onto others and help them along the way.  Our hope for this website is that it will find people in need of information about their condition and guide them on a path of recovery.

Red Flags

Not all radiating back pain is the same. If you experience any of the following, seek medical care immediately.

If you notice any of the following, seek medical care immediately:

  • Saddle anesthesia – numbness in the area that would be in contact with a saddle when riding a horse

  • Changes in bowel or bladder control

  • Weakness in the leg and/or foot that is getting worse

  • Pain that radiates into both legs

Additionally, consult with your physician at your convenience if either of the following apply to you:

  • Development of a rash on the painful leg

  • Failure to improve with physical therapy or other conservative management approaches after 6 weeks
